Join us as Mikel Joachim, PhD interviews Andrew Taut MS, ATC, CSCS, and JJ Hannigan, PhD, ATC, CSCS about their article "Influence of Footwear Selection on Youth Running Biomechanics: A Pilot Study." This hour-long interactive event includes time for Q+A.
Andrew Traut is an assistant professor at Montana Tech University in the Biological Sciences Department and Exercise and Health Science Program. He is a certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist. He began studying Exercise Science while completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia. He obtained a master’s degree in Human Physiology and Athletic Medicine at the University of Oregon. Andrew worked clinically as an athletic trainer, in a variety of settings, for 12 years before returning to school to pursue a PhD and a career in university teaching. Andrew is currently a PhD candidate in Kinesiology at Oregon State University and in the final stages of his dissertation. His research focuses on the biomechanics of running, footwear, and injury. In his time away from work, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife (Jordan) and their dog (Remi) exploring the mountains, rivers, and lakes around their home in Butte, Montana.
Dr. JJ Hannigan is an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at OSU-Cascades where he leads the Clinical Biomechanics, Evidence-Based Practice and Capstone Research courses. His research focuses on identifying biomechanical risk factors and improving treatment strategies for orthopedic injuries across the lifespan, including running injuries, ACL tears, and knee osteoarthritis. Recently, his research has focused on the effect of maximal and minimal shoes on running biomechanics in adults and adolescents.
Dr. Hannigan earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Human Physiology (Biomechanics) from the University of Oregon, a Master of Athletic Training degree from Saint Louis University, and a B.S. in Exercise Science from Saint Louis University. He is an active member of the American Society of Biomechanics, International Society of Biomechanics, and National Athletic Training Association. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the Oregon wilderness with his wife and dogs.
Mikel Joachim, PhD is the Research Program Manager for Badger Athletic Performance at UW-Madison. Her primary research interest is identifying risk factors for injury in high school and collegiate distance runners, with a particular emphasis on assessing running biomechanics. Her work on running biomechanics and running injuries has been published in journals such as JOSPT, MSSE, Sports Health and she regularly presents at CSM, ACSM, and other national conferences.
