  • Sim Klaps, MSc, PT

Sim Klaps is a sports Physical Therapist and PhD student at the University of Hasselt, studying the effects of exercise therapy in chronic pain populations. Sim has a special interest in the management of chronic low back pain, as it is the number one cause of disability worldwide. Despite the fact that the treatment effectiveness of exercise therapy is quite moderate, he believes that exercise therapy is the cornerstone in the rehabilitation of chronic low back pain. Current research of his promotor Prof. dr. Annick Timmermans and copromotor dr. Jonas Verbrugghe shows that high intensity training is a promising treatment option in this population. Therefore, Sim is investigating the underlying mechanisms of high intensity training, related to diaphragm functioning in persons with chronic nonspecific low back pain.
