Description

The program will focus on the clinical management of young athletes with high levels of sports specialization. We will discuss how a clinician can screen for athletes at risk of specialization related injuries as well as how to modify an athletes training plan to reduce this increased risk. We will also discuss how to have conversations with athletes and their families about this topic.

Program objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify athletes at risk for injury related to sports specialization 
  • Participants will be to plan or modify an athletes training regimen to reduce injury risk associated with sports specialization 
  • Participants will understand when/how to provide educational interventions to athletes about sports specialization.

  • Dr. Dustin Baldwin

    Dr. Dustin Baldwin is a Physical Therapist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Champion Performance Specialist (C-PS), and Certified Titleist Performance Institute Specialist (TPI). Dustin has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Drexel University and Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Hofstra University. After completing his final internship with the director of pediatrics at a facility in Manhattan, Dustin became the facilities youth athlete specialist. To expand his experience and continue to cultivate knowledge in the profession, Dustin joined the Sports Medicine Rehabilitation Team at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. He is currently interning with the Rutgers men’s basketball team while he is pursuing his SCS. Dustin also enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, hiking, playing basketball, and playing flag football.
