Description

Professional soccer players competing at 6 months gestation. Winning Olympic medals 18 months postpartum. CrossFit while pregnant. The purpose of this panel is to expand the listener’s understanding of training considerations for individuals during pregnancy and throughout the postpartum period; as well as understand how to recognize and manage medical emergencies that may occur during these periods of activity. This panel will also have time for Q&A for members of the Pregnancy and Postpartum SIG of the APHPT and the Specialization SIG of the AASPT (formerly Emergency Response and Residency/Fellowship SIG). The topics of this panel are inclusive to members of both the AASPT and the APHPT academies.

Mike Turnwald

Mike Turnwald currently lives in Columbus, OH where he owns a private practice as well as partners with a private clinic. He earned his DPT degree from the University of Pittsburgh, a sports residency at Ohio State and a travelling fellowship through the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy. He is also board certified in Orthopedics and MSK Ultrasound.

Mike is responsible for leading certifications in Emergency Medical Response through Cogent Steps LLC and has created an online course centering on acute pathologies relevant to pregnancy and postpartum individuals. He has been involved with D1 athletics at University of Pittsburgh and Ohio State University. Currently serves as adjunct faculty at University of Pittsburgh, Tufts University, and Bowling Green State University in their graduate departments. He has delivered sideline medical coverage to the Pittsburgh Marathon, collegiate and semi-professional rugby, Broadway productions, and CrossFit competitions.

At home Mike and his wife and two sons enjoy going for hikes and runs with their two dogs, Tucker and Sadie.
Dr. Blair Green PT, DPT, OCS, PHC

Dr. Blair Green PT, DPT, OCS, PHC is a current Director for the Pregnancy and Postpartum SIG for the Academy of Pelvic Health PT. She is the Founder and Owner of Catalyst Physical Therapy in Atlanta, GA. She has been in practice for over 23 years, with at least 17 of those years specializing in women’s health. She is passionate about helping moms of all ages live their best lives.

Dr. Green’s practice focuses on taking women from feeling defeated to empowered. She believes in addressing mind and body as a way to help women overcome challenges in their bodies as well as life.

As a teacher and nationally recognized presenter, she talks about putting the pelvic floor back in to the body and a holistic approach to pelvic health. She is the co-author of Go Ahead Stop and Pee: Running During Pregnancy and Postpartum and speaks on TV, in person and on podcasts about the subject and her book.

Dr. Green stays active by getting outside to run or walk, getting on her Peloton when she can, and doing Pilates. When not working, you will find her supporting her two teenagers in their sports and activities, finding new recipes to cook or playing outside with her husband and their rescue dog.
